Apple’s redesigned MacBook Pro will reportedly be significantly lighter than the current generation, adding a practical portability improvement to its expected OLED display and touch input. The reduction could be especially noticeable on the 16-inch model, which currently weighs as much as 4.8 pounds.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple reengineered the notebook’s interior by miniaturizing parts and rearranging components. The report does not provide a final weight, so buyers should not assume the redesigned model will match the 15-inch MacBook Air’s 3.3-pound figure.
The weight change is important because the current MacBook Pro balances sustained performance, battery capacity and ports against portability. A meaningful reduction would make the larger model easier to carry without requiring customers to move to a MacBook Air and give up higher-end processors or display options.

Apple is changing more than the screen
The new high-end MacBook Pro is also expected to use an OLED panel with stronger contrast, support touch input and replace the display notch with a Dynamic Island. Apple is reportedly adapting macOS Golden Gate so controls remain usable with a finger while preserving the keyboard and trackpad workflow.
Internal rearrangement can affect cooling, repair access and battery size, but the report does not establish changes in those areas. A lighter enclosure will matter only if Apple maintains the performance and endurance expected from a professional notebook.
MacObserver’s earlier report covered the broader OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro redesign. The new weight detail gives that overhaul a clearer everyday benefit, although exact dimensions, configurations and prices remain unannounced.
